First let me say that I know nothing of building bows or woodworking so my question may sound dumb.
On the powwow I read the thread where tradgang member "mysticguido" is giving away a farriers rasp and cabinet scraper, and that is the first time I have heard of a farriers rasp being used in bowbuilding.
My question is this:
Do any of you bowyers have need of used farriers rasps?
I ask because I am a farrier and work only on throughbred race horses on the breeding and training farms here in Ocala, Florida. I work with two other guys and we do somewhere around 600 horses a month. We go through a lot of rasps!
We usually change to a new rasp or two every week. When we are done with them they are still pretty sharp. We change rasps fairly often because with the number of horses we shoe, a dull rasp is too much work to push.
I don't know if the used rasps would be sharp enough for your work but I would assume they may be for rough work.
Let me know anyone can use these rasps because we normally just throw them out.

I always use used ones...but then again I get them for free from the guy who takes care of my horses feet.

You should repost this on the POW WOW im sure there are plenty of people in need of a rasp.

I could use one or two, Always in need of one

John, they should work great. I would love a couple of them also. Do you go to the TBOF shoots?

Longbowkid, and Jeff,
Yesterday was my first day back to work since October 15th, I broke my arm and had to have it "screwed" back together.
Give me a few days to gather up some rasps and I'll get them out to you. The two other guys I work with haven't saved any since I didn't tell them about this until this morning.
PM me you address and I'll get on it ASAP.
Jeff, I haven't been to any TBOF shoots yet. I was at the spring and fall shoots at the Silver Springs Conservation Center but just hanging around and visiting with friends.
I'll probably be out there this coming March as well.
I'll try to gather a few rasps tomorrow.
