Post by: wyatts daddy on December 13, 2008, 11:19:00 PM
I have been trying to add some mosaic accents to a few of my bows. Here are a few example lets see what you have.

Lookin great Guys!

David ,is that lacewood? I bought some lacewood, but it seems really lightweight, about like mahogany. Wasn't sure if it would work for risers or not. Thanks,Kenny

Hey Kenny,

I used some lacewood as a riser in a 66"longbow, pic below,..it worked great.  It has fairly open grain which I think really helps soak in the epoxy..I like it...and it worked just fine as a riser in this bow.  Best of luck!

Thats like the first pc of lacewood I bought! Check out the lacewood I got last time at bottom of this page on left, makes you wonder if they are even the same species!

I've cut some lams from this last pc,it is HARD!!

Kenny- I think that what you have there is leopard wood. nearly the same wood but leopard has a larger figure to it.

The lacewood I have used feels very heavy, almost like phenolic!

Don't have any mosaic's and not trying to change the direction of this thread but I've found that lacewood's figure can vary greatly. Here's some with what I would consider medium figure. The core is jatoba with lacewood side plates.
