After every shot the string comes off my Hickory bow. Do I need to file the nock a little deeper? I'm new to "stickbows" so any knowledge would be appriciated. Thanks

That would be my first guess...How deep are they now?

There could be a couple of causes for the string to come off. Twisted limb(s), bow too short, nock not deep enough. Got a pic you can show us? Pat

The bow is 68" NtN. There is no noticable twist or warpage. I'm trying to add pics but don't know how. sry. The nock does not appear to be deep enough, so I'm going to file a little deeper.

I always try to get my nocks as deep as my string is thick. Just lay it in the grove and feel with your finger, when it's even it's deep enough.
Your bow isn't "whip" tillered is it?

Glue a overlay on the back of your bow and file a deep string groove in it. I do the same on all my bows after a string slipped out of one side of a nock and split the other side about 6" down the limb on a fine osage bow.

I filed the nocks down until it felt flush with string. As far as tiller goes ,I don't know. I did not make the bow, I bought it. I will try to make a bow real soon.I own several books on the subject and I'm trying to get up the nerve to take the plunge.Thanks for all the help and comments. I'm sure if I have any questions on building my first bow I will be able to get help here.

The depth filed deep enough thatyour string is flush or at least close.I think your the first I've ever of haveing that problem.
