Title: Best glue for horn nocks?
Post by: portugeejn on November 08, 2008, 01:16:00 PM
What opinions are there concerning the best glue to attach horn nocks to a rawhide backed yew longbow?  Thanks.

Horn nocks like on an ELB?..or overlays?
I'm working on an osage ELB now and used 2 ton epoxy to attach the(cow) horn nocks. I used TBIII for horn nocks(water buff) on a yew ELB war bow(95#@30") and used gel super glue on another osage ELB with raw hide backing and horn nocks(cow).  Pat

Thick CA glue works well for horn.

2 pot epoxy works just fine.

Horn nocks as in ELB, although this is more of an American flatbow.  I will know tomorrow for sure if I want to use them.  To be honest, I hadn't thought of overlays until Pat mentioned it--but now I am thinking they may look better on the style of bow I'm making.  Thanks for the ideas all.

Not only will they look better they are a heck of a lot easier to shape and install. Flatten the limb tips, flatten the over lays, add super glue, clamp, wait an hour and shape and finish. Horn nocks for an ELB are a pain in the arse! d;^)    Pat

If you can find it "Zap a Gap" works well
