Title: progress so far
Post by: TroyH on September 24, 2008, 12:15:00 PM
First, this is my first osage bow to build, and second, thank to all who have answered various questions.
I had quite a time getting down to a good ring, but once I've reached it, things are progressing well.
I'm almost half way down the stave.  Once I got the hang of the chase, I'm moving along pretty well.  After about 6 inches, I thought I was on a good ring but ended up violating it and had to go back and chase another.

Oh yea, I know how to pick one for the first.  This one isn't too snaky but it does have some twist and several small knots that I'll have to go back and scrape more carefully, maybe even one or two that will have to be dug out and filled.  Oh well, if I live through this one I should be well broken in.

Be very careful with those knots.

Pastor, it is good that knew you violated a ring and started over. Even with all the rings I've chased that still happens to me. Using a curved tool will help yo chase those dippy rings. Jawge
