When I start stocking glass/glue,
1. Would you rather buy with scrim or without?
2. Do you buy more clear or black?
3. What is your most used thickness?
4. Does anybody use anything besides Smoothon?
Thats nuff questions for this round, thanks in advance! :wavey:

When I started building bows (Been right at 4 years)binghams said they would soon not offer the w/ scrim option so I just started without and stuck that way. Is one any better than the other?
Clear only
.050
Smooth on

Kenny I changed from smoothon to Techni-Glue years ago and I never regretted it, it's water wash up as well. I would never use smooth-on again...Glenn...

Kenny, I have been buying my glass from Three Rivers and have been very happy with it, but don't know if it has scrim or not. I am using .050, but plan to start shifting towards .040. Smooth-on rocks!

Kenny,
I use some smooth on but would like to explore other options. I use both clear and black glass and mostly .050 and .055.

smooth-on
-
Kenny ,
I use mostly clear and some black .040 and .050. I use with and without scrim depending on the bow and smooth no glue .
It will be great to have another glass supplier.
Are you going to be selling any phenolic ?

Bill,
Hadn't thought that far yet,but yes ,most likely.
May have to build on to my shop, getting ready to pour concrete in the back30x40 now!!LOL
Thanks guys,more opinions please.....

Without scrim, clear, black and brown, .40 and .50, and smooth on.
-
I use .040 glass, smooth on epoxy, and with and without scrim depending on purchase at the time. You can get away with more if the scrim is used but on the thinner glass you will sometimes run into bad spots. Glass color is mostly clear with some black or brown
-
I use .040 and .050 clear and smooth on and wiht or w/o scrim depending on project
-
I use west system epoxy w-a-y better than smooth-on
-
I'm trying West Systems epoxy as well. Goes off in 50 degree weather with no oven. Cleans up with vinegar.
-
Somebody please tell me what scrim is!
-
This came from the Bingham's site: A continuous unidirectional "E" fiberglass laminate combined with a 50/50 woven fiberglass inlay (scrim) that has high strength and stiffness along the longitudinal (0) axis and provides cross strength (90 degrees to the longitudinal axis).

1. without scrim
2. clear
3. 0.060 0.050 0.450
4. Epoxy

Hey Marty, heres the scrim page ULS Glass
http://www.gordoncomposites.com/product-gc70uls.htm
-
That's some purty fancy stuff! Thanks guys.
-
Kenny how about S glass which is MUCH stiffer than UL. It's somewhere between UL and carbon. Might be hard to get though.
-
Some other folks asked me about S glass, what do you think of it?
-
Kenny bufflobillpatrick used to post a lot and had great things to say about it. It's much stiffer than E glass but not as touchy as carbon. The only problem I've heard of was the difficulty in obtaining it. I think it could only be ordered from Gordon glass and they had a minimum order that was pretty high. So I don't know if that's changed though.
