Title: Hickory lams?
Post by: The Gopher on February 03, 2008, 05:50:00 PM
I haven't seen too many lams that are hickory, is this because you don't really need that heavy, tough wood when you will put glass on anyway? just curious, thanks, Dan.

Dan... while this is just a guess, it always looked to me like hickory was a pretty plain wood that wasn't all that popular because of that.

It's sure tough as nails though. No you don't have to worry about the core being THAT tough when it's in a glass sandwich.

Great Northern uses a lot of hickory.

Bill at Brack likes it too, but I think he makes actionwood out of it first, so it's even better for him.

I've sold several of these, but the plain stuff IS ,well ,plain. Wish I had a pickup load of this curly hickory.  :)
