I am in Ontario near North Bay. I hunt only with recurves and longbows for some time now. I love moose, deer, turkeys and caribou hunting. I owe my love of traditional archery to a very close friend from Ohio that first introduced me to the simplicity and beauty of shooting a recurve and for that I am very greatfull. My best hunting partner is my wife, who truly shares my passion for hunting.

Manitoba Canada .Great place to live if you enjoy chasing critters with stick and string. From all the species we have(big and small game)my favorite has to be our Manitoba Elk. My old trusty 56" Chek-mate has done it's fair share of putting meat and trophy's on the wall but will have to move over for my new toy,a predator camoed Daala. There's a solid group of traditionalist in the province, good bunch of people. I'm Fortunate to live here. MO.

I'm a non-resident, but I own property in North East Ontario near Warren. I've been hunting Traditional for many years as well, and I currently shoot a laminated recurve that I built myself. I mostly hunt high-pressured whitetails here in Michigan, but in Ontario I bow hunt bear, hare, grouse...and hope to hunt moose soon, on my place up there. I have a few whitetails around there too, but the moose tend to take over.--
Another Manitoban checking in! I've been at this about 10 years now. I shoot a Black Widow longbow and a Cari-Bow longbow. I've always focused on whitetails but am planning to do some bear hunting this spring. We do have a great group of trad shooters in Manitoba and lots of hunting opportunities.
Just starting out with traditional archery. Shot a compound for a couple years, but this is way more interesting :)
Ontario, Kemptville area. I think Ontario wins for the most stick shooters;-)

Robert hailing from Nunavut.
Checkmate Hunter Takedown. 62" 58#.
2nd year of bowhunting. Caribou, arctic hare, ptarmigan. But it is all theory. No kills yet. Bloody sad eh? Not for lack of trying. Last Sept/Oct, I put in about 150 miles on foot and didn't see a thing. But I still love to get out and roam and stump shoot, so it is worth the effort. And the exercise is healthy. Someday....
I'm in Nelson B.C., shoot selfbows and a Chek-Mate Thunderbird 51#.
I am new fairly hunting in general but have been chasing whitetails, elk and black bears, but the only meat in the pot via my bow has been from a few grouse. Had a nice bull elk broadside at 32 yds last season. (Strictly a 20yd limit for me)
Red Dwarf
Terrace, B.C.
A whole bunch of foam and a few blacktails so far, and nock to string 3 times for moose last year but no releases....very very very close but twigs and circumstance said no......next year is gonna be the year.
Chek-Mate Crusader.
Hey Yellow Owl, yep, but it's not like it used to be. Too many rich city folk have moved in & "gasp!", whack those cute lil deer?
About 2 years later I get a phone call, you hunt with a bow? The deer are eating my $30,000 landscaping you have to come do something!
Almost got a deal with Fish & Game to do "culling" once vinyards started happening here. But ran into a catch.
Had to donate the meat to a charity thing, food bank, hospital, whatever. But they now can't take it without "gov't inspection". To do that, I'd have to haul the meat off island, pay to get it inspected, then give it away with records every step of the way. Dumb.
Anyways, it's almost to the point there's no places to hunt other than private land. Luckily I've been here long enough that it's not a problem.
Give a holler if yer ever over this way.
Oh yeah, I've got a few more bows to come yet, waited a long time for the Canuck buck to get to par & I'm blowing the wad!
Looks like Herb and me are the only NB'ers on here.
Quill Flinger,
Yup...I know the feeling. Same thing happened over on Bowen Island. Lots of rich city folk trying to save "bambi". Saturna Island is the same thing.
Oh well. Glad to hear you still get a chance to fling a few arrows at those garden raiden ungulates!
Keep adding to that bow collection while the dollars high. I know I'm doing my part to keep 3 Rivers in business!
Take it easy
Niagara Region of Ontario checking in. Hunting with Trad gear for 15 years now. Bear, deer, moose and this year after turkey. Shooting Roy Hall's Navajo longbows.

Hey dere,
All youse Gulf Island hunters.
Don't they have an open season on introduced species on them there islands?
Ifn they do, can you hunt Suzuki's, of the Dave persuasion? :D
Be a hell of a thing to clean, though, being so full of feces, and hot air...pardon the pun. :bigsmyl:
But then again, who would want something like that hanging on their wall!?
ROTFLMAO!
Hey Don,
Robert from Nunavut here. Highly recommend the Checkmate Takedown. A beautiful bow and an incredibly reasonable cost. Suggest you talk to Chad at www.recurves.com (http://www.recurves.com) Chad is a great guy, easy to deal with and very knowledgeable.
I see you are in God's Country. Most of my kin are from just the other side of Algonquin Park. Would love to hunt (turkey) down there someday but not familiar with non-resident hunting laws.
R.W. :
Had to chuckle at your comments re: DS. He is a pompous windbag. Yet another celebrity who has his own private little island all to himself but expects the rest of us to live in caves, eat grass and break wind through a charcol filter.
Baffin....well put. :clapper:
Trapper
Baffin,
I would like to leave MY "carbon footprint" on his backside.. BIGtime.
Pompous is an understatement, IMOHO
But hey, happy hunting to all you fella's and gal's out there. Shoot straight, enjoy the flight of the arrow!
I'm in Lunenburg county Nova Scotia, recent convert to tradbow. Didn't take a deer this year because I don't think I shoot well enough yet. Next year.
Baffin sure would love to see the north some day but exactly what do you have to hunt ? can see bunnies and ptarmigan but are there any caribou or to far north? herb
Northeast Ontario(Timiskaming shores to be exact)checking in.I shoot a Tomahawk Thunderstorm, that I got from Harl, and a damon howett hunter.I hunt for anything that is in season and fish the rest of the time
it is about time Gary.
Hi guys... Barrie, Ont.... shoot recurves and longbows...love to hunt.
G'day Herb,
There are indeed caribou but currently, in my part of the north, they are a very long way off. A few years ago, they were everywhere.
Around that time, I had very many close encounters with them. I am talking a stone's throw away. At the time, I hunted exclusively with a rifle and had bagged many but seeing them up so close, I started to get other ideas. I was an avid archer in high school (many, many, many years ago -ain't telling!) and it occurred to me: "I can bag one of these babies with a bow", so I took up archery again. Got all outfitted and ready to go. And now I can't get within 10 miles of a caribou.
But I keep trying. I enjoy the hunt: the roving, the stump shooting and just the feeling of being outdoors with a bow and a pack and a bit of grit. So I keep at it.
Oddly enough, I have a strong desire to hunt turkey. It just seems like it would be a real gas.
RW:
You're killing me man! "Carbon footprint on his backside" Too funny. At the risk of getting too much off topic, I have had it up to my eyeballs with rich celebrity activists who are always trying to tell us how to live our lives (Bono, Suzuki, Gore....). I wish the lot of them would just P*** off and leave the rest of us alone.
Suzuki was flapping his gums the other day saying that any politicians who don't accept his climate change 'science' should be thrown in jail. Canada's greatest idiot.
