Title: Simple(ish) one
Post by: D.Ellis on December 31, 2014, 09:30:00 PM
Finally getting something accomplished......been hectic of late.   :knothead:

Low layer count(56) of 1084 and 15n20......laddered at the edge. Stabilized birch burl handle and brushed nickel silver bolster. For a local farmer to use butchering chickens and skinning hogs.
Blade length is 6 1/4"

I am working on the sheath tutorial that I promised my trad gang brethren way back in the summer. Look for that soon.

It looks like what a custom knife is supposed to be. In other words, you designed it perfectly for the job. Plus you made it pretty. He'll be happy with that Damascus and the way it cuts. The laddered edge will be aggressive.

That's a good looking knife.  A lot of us, me included, try to dress a knife up by using guards, spacers, bolsters, handles, accent stripes, inlays, polka dots, etc., etc. made out of a variety of materials, and when done right, it works.  But it's refreshing every now and then to be reminded how beautiful just a clean, simple piece of wood and shiney metal can be.  Thanks for sharing, and thanks for making the one I'm working on today a little easier to build.  I think I'm gonna take about half of the spacers/accents out of my plan after seeing this.

Your neighbor must grow some big chickens up there   :scared:  If I had to describe this knife I would say. Simple and Elegant.

Thanks guys.
This is a fairly light blade.......basically a butcher knife. It weighs 5.5oz.

Great looking knife Darcy. Like the way you only laddered the edge.

I agree with the others-it's very appealing in design and execution. Embellishments and added features can be nice, but certainly not necessary. In my opinion, (which is worth very little), a design like yours can make any flaw stand out big time rather than getting lost in a lot of other details. It might seem easier, but the necessity to nail the fit and finish is right at the top. And it appears you did it quite well     . I always enjoy getting to see your stuff, thanks for sharing it.
