Title: The latest off the forge
Post by: Doug Campbell on June 18, 2014, 09:17:00 AM
And probably the last for a while, even though it was 37* this morning summer is here on the Ranch... Forged from a bar of Karl's 1"sq 5160, blade is 10" long and 1 15/16" wide with a not quite sharp clip. Tapered tang integral with fossil Walrus and NS peened pins. She'll be headed for MA soon as I can get the sheath done. Thanks for looking.

That tapered tang adds so much (subtracts so much?).
Really balances a knife out - both visually and physically. And an integral too!

I agree with Ron. Tapered tang, integral, fossil walrus. All really worked great.

That's really nice Doug. I like the minimalist integral bolster a lot. Does the walrus on the other side match well? From the photo's I would have guessed it was mammoth. Any tapioca in the middle, or was it slabs off the outside of the tusk? Sorry for all the questions.........can`t help myself, I am too far away to chicken eye and coon finger it   :D

Doug,
That double integral off the blade and starting the handle is very cool.  Who is it going to in MA...I need to handle that one.  Very Nice!

Nice chopper Doug. Cant beat properly forged and heat treated 5160.

Thanks again guys, yes Darcy there is some tapioca in the middle, managed to get it pretty centered even  ;)  The off side has a little less "bark" showing do to the natural curve of the tusk but it's pretty good also. I'll try and post a couple more pics when I get a chance.
