Title: Help Sanding riser.
Post by: maxfit on February 01, 2008, 09:18:00 PM
Trying my hand at refinishing a Fedora riser. I am sure it will end up at Bowdoc. But gotta give it a try. I have been sanding away with different grit sanpaper and not getting anywhere. I think whoever did this bad refinish job sprayed it with Kryptonite. Any suggestions?

Try cabinet scrapers followed by sandpaper.  They'll save a lot of sanding and dust.

What Dave said! That is always how I start. comes from a little self bow building know how.
Just a decent sized knife will do as well, just will dull'en faster.

I start with 100 grit and finish with 220.Scrapers work great and will save you some time.....but one note I did not see above. Was to be careful.Scrapers can sometimes snag onto different grain flow directions and egdes (bad too if it ai'nt sharp) around the grips and arrow shelf. Also scrapers if pushed down to hard will sometime cut small channels into the wood and cause a bit more sanding for the finished product.Take your time....bowdoc
