This pattern was an "oops". I wanted to add some volume to a smallish billet early on in the welding process so I added 3 layers(between 2 stacks of 14) and folded 2 more times. I should have either added the extra layers one weld sooner(with 7 on each side) or maybe folded again for a higher total count. I ended up with a cool looking blade, but it wasn't what I was trying for. I figured it looked like a topographical map, hence the name.
Here're the specs.
8 1/2 inch blade.....124 layers of 15n20 and 1084
13 1/4 inch overall length.
12 oz
elk antler handle
textured mild steel fittings and heat colored copper spacer.
It is not a very big knife. Balances just ahead of the guard......handles really quick, but still chops well because of the downward curve of the handle.
Let me know what you all think, good or bad.
Thanks,
Darcy :campfire:

I like it Darcy! Rustic, with a touch of refinement with that sweet copper spacer. Nice work!
-
Nice contrast of color and texture Darcy.

Darcy,
That blade is awesome, I really like it! "Oops" like these can turn in to custom signatures. Great work.
-
Great looking blade, I love the handle as well.

Like everything about it Darcy, well done on the oops.

Some of the greatest creations came from ooops moments. I would say this one qualifies.
Sweet blade.

Mr. Darcy that is impressive thanks for posting! Do you think you could forge your favorite hunting spot on your blade so you could find your stand? Using the topo? I think you guys on this forum are good enough to do it! Thanks again!!
-
Very nice Darcy. Thanks for sharing your creation.

OOPS = Outstanding!
That knife has every element that I like!
The textured Pommel is just one of my favorite details.

You have made one fine looking knife there. Instead of oops you have come up with your own style. Lin has the W's you have the Topo.

Thanks fella's.

I can't seem to keep a blade long enough to risk putting sensitive details like that on it! Good hunting spots are secrets worth keeping :D

I really like this one, Darcy. I wish I made more "mistakes" like that. Great knife.

Very cool oops. I love natural antler on a blade and that's a great profile, and finish on the fittings.
-
Great looking knife. Wish I had an oops like that.

You screwed up real good on that one. I think you oughta do one like that on purpose if you get a chance.

Thanks guys.
Matt, I may try this again sometime, but I have lots of other patterns I need to try to screw up first :D
