Title: "Breasted" Tapered shaft Question
Post by: RRock on February 01, 2008, 06:42:00 PM
Getting ready to build some arras and would like to try some "breasted" tapered shafts. But, I don't know the lengths of the tapers. I'll be starting with 23/64" shafts and I guess the nock taper goes to 5/16" and the front taper goes to 11/32", does that sound right?. Now, if thats correct, what is the length of each taper? Thanks in advance!

Yes that is correct. Got a guy up here in Minnesota that does my Breasted shafts for me and he does mine with 10" of taper on each end. Said he sometimes goes longer or shorter, don't recall his reasons, but I'm sure it has something to do with the spine needed for the bow. I think he once told me that he varies the front between 9-10" and the rear taped between 9" and 11".
I sure like the way they fly from my longbow though. Going to try to make a set one my own one day, as soon as i figure out a consistant way to taper 10" of shafting.

Yep, all the ones that I have are just like Bjorn's.  10" back (23/64 to 5/16) font 5" ( 23/64 to 11/32) dino
