Title: Crown Dipping/Cresting Question
Post by: JD1983 on February 01, 2008, 04:07:00 PM
I've searched and read for hours and still can't figure this out.  Do you do a crown dip/crest before or after you seal the arrow?

Does it work the same if you are using poly seal from Home Depot instead of something like gasket laquer?

I personally dip and crest before sealing.

Here's what I do. I dip three coats of spar urethane, then spray the crown "dip" with rattle can Rustoleum, then crest. I allow everything to dry 24 hours between steps. After everything dries a few days, I wipe on a coat of Polycrylic over the crown dip and crest.

I always sealed first and then crowned crested then put a coat of water based clear over the crown and crest. That always gave me consistant crest lines. Be careful with anything not water based. It could make your crest melt/bleed/run.
