I agree 100% mysticguido, great guy, great show and a great accomplishment.  I enjoy watching Fred with his recurve more than any other show on TV.  He is very easy to relate to like an old hunting buddy if you will.  I look forward to seeing the stone sheep hunt.

The show was on the Outdoor Channel last week. It's quite a story and it took him two shots to get the job done. His wife, Michelle told us the story at last years Muzzy Stump Shoot. The show is one you won't want to miss.

Title: Re: Fred's Stone Sheep Hunt
Post by: imskippy on February 06, 2008, 10:14:00 AM
He is sponsored by Easton and Muzzy mainly. I'm sure thats a majority of his costs right there. Not to mention he is a succesful outfitter aswell. Who knows though. Until Easton bowhunting TV I had no idea who Fred was, I am however fairly new to the hardcore trad world(just over a year and loving it). Now he's a pretty common name especially here in the trad world.

How nice it would be though to get a phone call saying your going Elk hunting and oh by the way it's on the house!!

Not sure how much money is in the broadhead business but his wife is the daughter of Muzzy founder.  I'm sure there is some great promotion for the Muzzy company...this alone is major point.  I believe he has taken most of his 28 with a Muzzy head or I'm sure his wife would have his.

By the way the hunt was awesome and so was the hunt in Mexico a couple of weeks before.

mmgrode summed it up just right, relax? i wasn't taking anything away fromt he guy, just asked where he got his funds? Didn't know his background till i read about him last night in the UBNJ magazine i got int he mail. i do realize you can swap hunts, but it still takes time away from your home life and his buisness as a guide.

Biggie Hoffman, your right i could do it if i wanted, but my priorities are different i guess. i have to work hard to support my family and my job only allows 3 weeks vacation a year. Like a normal guy?

"I'm never going to have the time or money to hunt all the places and things in North America, much less Africa, but I am going to try to see as much as possible and I am happy we live in a place where if it is possible, it can happen."

Steve O, i guess were in the same boat?

If anyone does a search of past threads on Grand Slams or Super Slams you might see why Steve was quick to go into the defence mode.

In the past I have seen some of these threads get ugly fast.

Friend told me about this post and I just had to reply. Thanks for the comments. For those curious I started life in a trailer park with loving parents and a dad that was a green beret. So no trust fund.I managed my goal by working multiple jobs, and staying single till I was 31.I also lived in cheap rentals with roommates so I could spend all my money on hunting. It took me 20 years to accomplish my goal at an average of around 6000. a year. there are a lot of kids that email me and that read these posts so I dont want Steve to cause any of them to feel they cant accmplish any goal they set for themselves.Fred Eichler

Fred, I know I can't do most of the hunts You did the ones I have seen on DVD or TV, Health reasons stop me from that... It is great to see someone like You & others do TV & DVD with trad gear. Some hunts make me feel like I was there. Yes I know I wasn't really there, but my hunters Soul & Heart can dream it... I thank You for that... One day I hope I can really get the chance to meet & sit down and just talk about hunting... I have seen you take my Top 5 Game Animals ( Kudu, Grizzy, Black Bear, Elk, Bison). Please keep up the great work... I can't wait till you bring out Traditional Harvest V.

You make all those hunts seam real and make us all feel as if we are there. I as well as many others I'm sure have been intrigued by you and your hunts. Again keep up the good work. I hope I get a chance to meet you next week at the UBNJ dinner. Jason B. "skippy"

My posts were intended to point out taking the NA28 is an incredible accomplishment, full of wonderful experiences.

I tried to illustrate that having a ton of money is not very high on the list of what it takes to accomplish that.  Those illustrations came out poorly.

I am very happy for Fred Eichler and Rick Duggan and understand how hard they worked to acheive that goal.  There is no way I would try to discourage anyone from trying to do the same thing, knowing the wonderful experiences they would have and the beauty they would see.

I am all for the dream and against people running down those who have made it their reality.  Just a bit sensitive 'cause I still have some dreams...

Fred,
My father is one of my heroes.  I look up to him and listen closely to every fact and story he tells about wildlife, hunting and shooting.  He's been doing it for his whole life and is pretty darn good at it.  He has yet to achieve what you have in regard to the NA28 but folks like you and him, who share your hunts with us, are the best kind of men.  Thanks for passing it on.

I shot with Fred at ATAR last Summer and he is a down to earth guy. He is a hoot to shoot with, and a good shot also. Anybody that spoke to Fred at this shoot he would stop and talk with them. Everyone there was wanting to talk with him and he took time for everyone. He gets as fired up on a good shot at a 3-D animale as he does on tv shooting a live animale. Well maybe not as fired up as he did on the grizzly bear. When he left WV I felt I had made a new friend.

Fred is a great guy and not "loaded" with money.  I was told that as an outfitter many of his hunts are "swap" hunts.  I was at two bowhunter meetings where he was the speaker last year.  He spent time talking to people outside of the meetings and he was great to be around.  Can not say enough good things about him as a person.

I just finished watching the show on outdoor channel.  They had it listed as New Mexico Elk, but in fact it was Stone Sheep.  I got to admit, it brought a smile to my face seeing Fred score on that Sheep.  I can only imagine the journey he's been on.  Long, hard and most importantly Fun.  I'm sure it has had its ups and downs.  Congrats Fred, you surely deserve it...Mike

We are all dang lucky to have a guy like Fred representing traditional bowhunting on television. Always shows respect and dignity for the critters and seeing that enthusiasm just makes me want to get my little boy out the yard to fling arrows. Big Kudos also to Easton for supporting a Trad Bowhunter on their program and giving him the latitude to make his choice on bows.

Thanks for taking the time to post on this forum. I really like your show and appreciate the effort it took to accomplish your goal of the Super Slam.

One thing though. You think that you could not put a  lid on your emotions and really let us really see what you are feeling when you take a trophy?     ;)

Just kidding.

Congratulations and keep up the fine work.

DirecTV Outdoor Channel did the same thing. Had my Tivo season pass set to "Bowhunting TV" so it missed the previous showing. Gonna setup a Tivo title/description wishlist with bowhunting as the keyword. That should fix those pesky directory programmers who like to change the program titles.    :knothead:

I would just like to extend a sincere thank you to Fred and Michelle for making the trip to spend the evening with us here in Jersey. Fred told us a few camp stories and man did he have us rolling on the floor in tears. I enjoyed the evening and got to meet some great people. Keep up the good work Fred.
