Title: Flu Flu problems.
Post by: Izzy on January 29, 2008, 12:25:00 PM
I am having trouble slowing down my 456 gn 28 3"4 inch Beman ICS fletched with 4 6" full size feathers from my 55# Zipper.I tried a spiral fletch and that ended in disaster.Should I go with a cedar or increase the fletches to 6? Any help appreciated.

Yes to either option, or put an extreme helical on the feathers.

you can add a closely wound 6" feather(each turn touching the previous one) at the back of the large feathers. You have to strip the vane to be able to get it to stick. This works very well, much like like an airbrake. There was an article in TBM last year with good pictures to follow.

6, 4 or 4.5" full size feathers, all with some extreme helical, seem to do the trick for me, Izzy...

I got em slowed right down now!!!!!.I put a hodge podge of full feathers, shields and full feather remnants in a straight jo jan clamp and sanded them down until all of the white pith was gone then I wound them around the shaft using fletch tape. They look great and slowed the arrows right down. Thanks fellas.

Izzy just to save you some sanding.......just strip a full length feather and spiral fletch.  Or even strip pieces and spiral them on.  The key is to strip the feather, not sand it.  Sanding works, stripping is easier.

Fletch tape and a full length feather spiraled round the shaft, stretched a bit so as the feather seperates. Slows them real quick! Shawn
