Title: First hawk almost finished
Post by: Bobby Urban on May 15, 2011, 08:36:00 AM
I took a 2" piece of wrought and forge welded a chunk of lawnmower blade into the business end.  Drifted and eye and rough finished.  Planning to make an osage handle but I have a box of different hickory handles at the shop so I used one for display.  I plan to clean it up a bit before heat treat but I will leave much of the hammer work in it as it was my first try at this and will make them nicer as I go.  You can see where the wrought would rather tear than stretch when pounding the drift for the eye.  This was a lot of fun and I plan to make more of these little buggers.
