Title: kenetic energy?
Post by: joe ashton on January 28, 2008, 11:14:00 PM
Hi all.

Could someone run through the math used to calculate the  foot pounds of energy an arrow has please. I just read Chuck Adams' article in Bugle Mag' on penetration. It made me curious. The math he outlined did not work.

fpsxfpsxarrow weight/450240=ke   Ke is not too important when your talking about trad gear.  Momentum is a much better penetration indicator IMO.  If your going for elk with a lighter setup, it's best to shoot heavy arrows to get penetration.  At least 500, and preferably 550-650 grains.
