Title: Getting started
Post by: Hoytmystic on February 12, 2011, 02:30:00 PM
I have admired some of the file and saw blade knives that have been shown. I don't know the slightest thing about knife making. I would like to know what I would need to get started and a resource for this kind of knife making?

Thanks

I would buy the books by Wayne Goddard as he covers knife making with a minimal investment. That and do a search here and on some of the knifemaking forums. Good luck!

Welcome to a new addiction  :) .  I second Wayne's book suggestion-try the $50.00 Knife Shop.  It's a great book with a lot of good information on getting started on the cheap.  Have fun

Search for your state's custom knife guild or knife maker's association or organization.  Go meet someone, spend a little time with them in the shop.
You will find that most knife makers are eager to get someone started.  You will learn a lot, and fast.
Books are good too, but nothing like seeing it with your own eyeballs.

welcome to this great addiction.  you will find that as well as books the many members of the tradgang are more than willing to help with any and all questions.  some more experianced than others but all willing to help as much as they can.
