Post by: J CARPY on December 30, 2010, 10:20:00 PM
A while back Lin mentioned a hammer in at Tannehill, does anyone know the date? Is anyone welcome? Even a novice, with only a want to attitude? Is there ever any close to Baton Rouge area?

I may try and make it. Will it be held by the blacksmith shop? or where they hold the Archery contest?
Tannehill State Park Bessemer Al. Approx. 20 miles west of Birmingham.

It is spread out all over the meadow area and in the pavillions. This place is beautiful and has deer and geese, etc walking through. Ok, the geese fly. Nice restrooms too.

I plan on being there! I did now know there was a Hammer-in at Tannehill. I am just in my infancy of knifesmithing. I still have alot to learn and i think this would be a good opportunity!

Yeah I have broke a few arrows in the back along side of the hills. I have been to the State shoot. and Howard Hill shoot. Cool place! Do ya"ll camp, or stay at motel?

I've camped in a tent for three of them, in some big pines just across the little stream from the pavillions.  Never had to wait for a shower or anything at the bath house but I tend to get up pretty early.  There are fire pits and trash barrels for most of the campsites.  There's a truck stop 3 miles away on the nearest I-20 exit with pretty decent food if you get tired of camp cooking or the burger/hotdog stands at the hammer-in.  For some reason the restaurant inside the park wasn't open during the last hammer-in I went to.  The cabins inside the park tend to fill up way in advance.

Motels are not but about 20 minutes away, thats not too bad. The last time I went the restaurant was still not open from the fire, is it as good as it used to be?

The next best thing is to look up the state or regional knife making clubs and join so you can go to shop visits and shows. Texas has one I think
