Title: rainy day sheath making..
Post by: mountaindog on December 06, 2010, 11:51:00 PM
(note: i am not a knifemaker.. just a knife junkie/user.)

my older son had a friend spend the night on friday night, and with our house being so small it's hard to avoid each other, so while they were blasting rap music and playing video games in the living room, i decided to head into the garage and bend some leather.. we have been getting a bunch of rain here lately, and we all have been getting a little stir crazy..  i haven't done any leatherwork for a while now...   i finished most of it on friday and ended up dying and sealing it on saturday..

anyhow on to some pics...

i made this sheath for a David Farmer "tribal utility" knife, that i scored recently..  it's my 3rd one in the last month actually...:satanlook   this knife, wchich used to be David's personal user, that he was so kind to give up to me, is absolutely perfect.. i love it..:tu:

i decided to make this one sort of a new school Sami-style sheath..  i really like the free mobility you have with the dangler style sheath's..

it's 8 0z. veg. tanned leather.. wet formed and dyed in med. brown Fiebings dye.. then sealed with bee's wax..

it's been cold here lately, and i find this style of sheath , very easy to access, when having to wear lots of layers..

the wet form on this one turned out nice and solid, i am stoked... the knife locks in tight, with a loud kydex like sound...
