these are harder to make than they look... wrought iron wrapped with 15n20 welded into the edge. It took me 3 attempts to get everything to stick. Each time the welds failed I had to go in and clean all the scale and flux out and try again. Once again.. it came down to temperature and soak...

thanks folks! fun to make. Can't wait to do another.
And yeah.. that is some rawhide. I'm really getting into working with that stuff....
-
Im still drooling over this one. I hope that one day my work is half that good...
-
(WOW) That is nice, love that old rustic look nice job!

Thanks guys...
Cody it will be.. just don't give up when things get hard. Twice I almost threw this thing in the scrap pile, but twice I opened it back up to clean all the scale out with sand paper, files, dremel tool.. whatever I could fit in there.
It's these kind of projects that make me want to add a coal forge to my shop... I just get a feeling that coal makes for better welding conditions for stuff like that. When I watched Butch Sheely do this, after he was done the thing didn't even look like it went through a forge. Look at mine... I didn't put those marks in there like I normally do. They aren't even hammer marks. those are scaled out pits from all the excessive welding heats and too rich of an atmosphere...

Im still trying to build my forge cant find noone with a welder to help me out. have a RR track anvile and possibly an official one coming.

cody.. get a 110v wirefeed welder.. a craftsman.. for $100. You can teach yourself and you will be amazed at what you can do with one....
