Title: HRC rating.
Post by: Chris Grimbowyer on October 11, 2010, 03:03:00 PM
Hey Guys what is a good hrc rating for a handmade damascus steel knife? I am finding some for pretty cheap and I would like to know if they are worth the money but I am looking for a great outdoor knife to actually use so I want to know they are durable and can be put to the test. The ones I am looking at are 52 to 55 hrc.   and just curious. What is the highest HRC rating steel?

52-55 is a bit soft
58-60 would be better  with a softer spine
on a larger knife that would be used for  camp chores
and slightly harder for a small caper that doesnt usually see the kind of hard use
