Title: Kiln question.
Post by: TheBigRedArcher on September 25, 2010, 12:33:00 PM
To all the AWESOME knife makers on this site:

I am playing with the idea of making or buying a kiln and trying to treat my own knives instead of sending them out to be treated.

What do you all use and how hard is it to make a temp. controllable unit?

If you all think buying one is the way to go, what is the best bang for the buck?

I mostly am working with D2 and do not have plans of yet to forge.

I bought a used ceramic kiln off craigslist for a fraction of what it cost new.  It will hold any temp I want to set from 100 to 2300 degrees.  It's way bigger than I need for knives and it takes 220V 15 amp to run but it was way cheaper than buying a nice 115V knifemaker oven from Paragon or Evenheat.

I see them for about $150 on craigslit pretty regularly.
