I need my first pair or two of tongs. Been looking on ****. What do you recommend? I see several types called bolt tongs that look like they would be good. What size opening is best?

Gabe - I have a couple of old blacksmith tongs laying around in my shop if you're interested in them; if so, send me your address, and I'll pack em up and send em to you.
I never use em any more, and you can have them for free. I think they may be home-made by a blacksmith? Mike Roberts in bee-u-ti-ful WA State

check out the www.gstongs.com (http://www.gstongs.com)
Also check out the project sections of anvilfire.com ... there are a number of relatively easy tong styles to forge. Good hammer control practice! ;)

Get a pair or two and make the rest yourself. It is one of the best learning tools in the blacksmithing trade. You should strive to make every one of your own tools whenever possible. Each tool builds important skill sets for you.
