Title: From the Forge into the Fire Pot
Post by: tippit on September 04, 2010, 08:52:00 AM
The past couple of months I've been doing some coal forging.  Very different but a lot of fun plus no power involved.  But for Convenience and staying Clean, the Propane forge is the Cat's Meow  :)

After coming through Earl, all the Nor'easters, and power outages during the year...I think I'm just about fixed for whatever New England weather can throw at me  :scared:

Here are my Labor Day projects:

1)  Old time hand cranked coal forge set up.  This baby won't be picked up by some stinkin' little hurricane!  The fire pot and tuyere drop into the steel top plate.  Needed more than just tongs with this forge so I made up a few fire tending tools.  The unit is way too heavy to move with out the casters.  Not quite finished as I need to make a chimney to fit over the fire.

2)  After seeing Lin's post on the small forge, I couldn't resist adding it to my bigger propane forge and maybe taking it down to Aiken for the winter.  Really nice portable propane forge.  This is about as close as I get to being a bladesmith like Lin...Doc

Tippit do you have plans for the small propane forge you have it the picture? That is one of the cleaner designs I have seen. Looks like it is designed for knife work.
