Well,I scored a deal on some big sawmill blades the other day and two of them are 5/32 thick which is just perfect for me to work with but one of them is a whopping 5/16 thick. My question to you guy's is what would you make out of the thick one? maybe hawks or hatchets? I feel like its too thick even for a big bowie. Now keep in mind I am a stock removal guy although one of these days I will probably give the hammer a try.How about some good ideas from some of you creative trad knife makers.

I second that, how about a trad meat cleaver.

great stuff.<><

Meat cleavers are cool. I use the one I found all the time although it could use a new handle. I see Asian chefs use them almost exclusively.
I'll be waiting for pics

That thick piece would make for a great Kukri knife.

I've got a saw blade and would like to make a knife out of it. How do you cut a piece of stock out of such a large piece of steel?
-
I used to do it with a 4" grinder, trace out pattern and cut at right angles carefully so as not to get into pattern and then ggring excess down to the line and finish shapeing, but this hobby has turned into such a passion for me and I make so many it justified the purchase of a small plasma torch that really helps out but the grinder with cutting wheel works fine.

Thanks Oldpaths, I'll give it a try.
