Here's one that has the "Cool" factor very covered in my book, course I'm a sucker for sheephorn ;) It's damascus but the billet only had 16 layers in it. I'd made it up sometime back for guards, butt caps and such. There was a piece about 3" long so I grabbed it when I headed out to forge a couple of carbon blades and hammered this blade out. Due to the low layer count the pattern I wasn't expecting much mostly just messing around. But when I got it hand polished I could tell I liked it. Took it down to 800gr, did a light etch then buffed very lightly. The 1080 looks almost like a fine worn gun barrel with the 15N20 scattered thru it. Added a 416SS guard and some Montana bighorn, don't get no better than that ;) She's got a 4 3/4" blade and is 9 1/4" overall.
In case you can't tell I'm tickled with the way it came out ;) Enjoy!

Sweet Doug!
The patterns in the blade & horn compliment each other really well.

I like that pattern. Almost looks like python snake skin!

Like the shape of the blade and guard too. Very nice!

Sheep horn certainly does have its own special place in the knife world, doesn't it?
That's got a ton of cool factor, Doug.

Doug, that is AWESOME, all the way around!

Yep, I second the cool factor. That one would be fun to wrap leather around.

Very cool. Is the sheep horn hollow? Do you fill it with epoxy around the tang? Is the back end hollow or capped/filled with something? I don't have an sheep horn laying around but I do have a couple of old cow horns I could play with.

Sweet it is! :clapper: :goldtooth:

That's one of the cool things about these wild Bighorn Sheep, there is alot of solid horn on them. The hidden tang is epoxied into the horn but the rest is solid horn.

Doug, that knife is very cool! I prefer the lower layer count damascus it looks like bonus temper lines to me!
The guard has a great shape!

Doug...I usually do not like the sheep horn handles, but I believe you have changed my mind! Wish I saw this BEFORE the Blade show, I would have picked up a couple of pieces while I was there.
