My Nephew ... SPC. Jacob Drown ( 994th EN CO Spin Boldak , Afganistan) Asked me to send him a flint knife to carry durn his deployment in Afganistan. He's been in country 3 weeks. He's in the thick of it... :(
Anyway. I have a few blades to work with but I really want a special one for this knife. If anyone of you have a flint knife blade that I could buy that would show something special for one of our fighting men in Afganistan. The knife will be fitted with a tine off of the 8 point I killed this past season with a stone point.It will also have Indian pipe stone on end of antler handle with his unit logo. Thanks ...Jake will carry it with honor for all there that fight for our freedom... Jeff Drown

If the knife is actually going to be carried, especially over there, I would send him something other than a flint blade.
If he is "in the thick of it" send him something that is sharp, tough, reliable.

Did you ever get a blade? You may want to give out the width of the antler tine end where the blade will go. I have a blade that is not 5" and not special looking, kind of uniform brown and not great flake scars because it is some raw or nearly raw texas flint, it is leaf shaped, guessing its 3 or so inches long. But it is really tough rock and would probably poke a hole in a few things and come out just fine if its mounted good. If you are still looking and want something very nice to look at (although it will likely be heat treated and not as tough as raw rock) you can search the flintknapping art section of that e bay place. Also there is a yahoo group called Knappers R Us where there are lots of guys that could hook you up with a nice blade or custom make one pretty much however you want it. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Knappers-R-Us/
