just picked up some grizzly stick sitkas for my bow. i am shooting a 52@28 longobow, and i draw around 27. will i need to use the brass inserts, or should i use the aluminum ones? how do i bare shaft tune these, if i cant take the inserts out and cut the arrow? thanks

I'm shooting an identical weight bow and draw length. I too just got some grizzly stick sitkas. Maybe I got lucky, but I found them extremely forgiving to tune and shoot; probably due to their radical taper. I used the brass inserts and just played with point weight. For me, I went to 145 grain tips, where as I was using 125 when shooting aluminums. I got the Alaskans to shoot pretty good too buy going up to 165 grain tips. I also leave my arrows a little longer than most, as I find it make a more forgiving to tune set up.
It takes a little work, but if you leave your shafts at 32 inches and work down from there, you will tune your arrows faster and with less frustration. I did not do this and wound up frustrated at first. Too many variables with carbon but maybe worth the effort? Shaft length, insert weight, tip weight, and even spine or soft spots on the shafts. They sure do fly better and hit harder than wood though.
i guess my question was, how do i glue in the insert, then get it out to cut it dow. i too will be using 145 grain points. i read on alaska bowhunting site that minimal amounts of hot melt are fine, as long as you dont heat up the shaft. thanks for the advice.

Use a little hot melt on the insert with the tip in it. Then heat the insert and use a small amount of melt and push it in by the tip and wipe off the excess. To remove get a set of pliers and heat the tip up and then pull it out by the heated tip.
For my final brass inserts in my Grizzlystiks I then use JB Weld. A tip I got from Ed.
