Title: Vulcan Anvil
Post by: Dan White on February 17, 2010, 10:06:00 PM
I have been looking for a anvil for a friend and found one on a local sale bill. It is listed as a small vulcan anvil. Can anyone tell me anything about this type? Please

They are a cast anvil,  some have a steel plate welded on.  They are servicable, but dont pay the same as you would a good forged anvil.

I wouldnt go over $2 a pound on one, even in very good/excellent shape.

I have a 70# vulcan and like it.  It's a cast iron body with a 1.25" tempered steel plate for the face.  The rebound isn't as nice as a forged anvil or even a cast tool steel, but it's definitely serviceable for the bladesmithing I do and it doesn't ring for ages - the neighbors appreciate that!  I paid $120 shipped for it (a bit of a deal).
