Somebody just gave me a whole box of whitetail sheds....25 or so from spikes to 10 pointers. A lot of material to play with. So can you guys post some pics of knives you've made using antler material? I'm not ready to play with hidden tangs yet. I want to split the antler material into scales. Anyway... just looking for ideas!

I started with hidden tangs and find them quite easy.I would suggest hidden tangs because deer antler is fairly thin and will probably show the pith if cut into scales.
I'm no expert but if you want to pm me we can talk on the phone and I can tell you some tricks I have learned.I an sure you could make some fine hidden tang knives.

I was looking at these knives... I thought something like this would work on small knives:

hey moss,
Been bumping into you alot lately.
Its no problem on small handled knives.Ill have to find the patch knife and take new pics, but sometimes you can pretty much match the taper of the horn to the tang and dont need to file too much off.I may have given that knife away, but I'll take a look.
Also,Im trying to put together some ideas on the wire inlay.I'll let you know.

Thanks fellas.. Beautiful stuff.
On the hidden tangs with the burr on the pommel... what did you do if you have a brow tine... which all of mine do... about two inches from the burr? Can you hide the spot well enough if you just grind it off?

Here is a stock removal File blade, I think my 4th completed knife.
Curly maple with whitetail crown!
I made the bow too! Bamboo backed laminated osage/zebrawood and diamondback skins.
Scott, most just grind off the tine!

I cut it off and sand it smooth. On the one with the arrow head in the burr the deer tracks are where the brow tine used to be.

Looking for a red stag antler about 6" long and 1" to 1 1/2" at the base. Anyone have one for sale or trade? I am going to use it for flint knapping.

Nice work....
I suppose often you have to design your tang to fit the antler that you have to work with...
