Title: Restoring an old leather handle military knife

I have been asked by a young man to restore an old Camillus leather handle  military knife that was his grandfathers. I have got it apart and cleaned up but I'm not sure exactly what weight leather to use for the handle. Does anybody know what would work the best?

If you are talking leather washers as in a hidden tang,I don't think it would matter as long as they are all pressed together.You will need to construct a press which can be as simple as two pieces of 2X4 and two all threaded rods with washers and nuts.The thicker though the fewer you will have to cut and slot for the tang.

       Yes It's a hidden tang knife that had a leather washer handle. I'll be making the die to cut and slot the leather. I figured I would have to press the washers as tight as possible to be able to pin the but cap back on. I was just wondering if there was a certain type and weight leather that I should use. Your probably right. The thicker the leather the less I'll have to cut. Thanks for the input.
