Title: Knife lanyard Hole Flare
Post by: Jesse on February 03, 2010, 12:58:00 AM
I know it only takes a few minutes to do but can someone direct me how to flare a lanyard hole in a knife handle.  an easy example would be like the way it looks on a cold steel knife it has a metal tube through the handle and the ends are flared.  my question is:
do you know of what tool they use and does anybody know an inexpensive place to get one maybe have an old one lying around

thanks

Careful!
A nail set will work, but it is very subtile, too much and CRACK.
You can use a steel punch with bigger angle, it'll only flare the very end of the thonghole. It doesn't take much.
If you don't have to flare it, you can bevel the edge with countersink bit in drill, to keep from wearing on the thong.
