There comes a point here in Illinois after the first of Dec, and we don't have any venison in the freezer, when we say "If it's brown - it's down!"
This is what I got last night on the way back to my truck!
Anyway, that knife I'm using is the knife I forged when I went to Ed Fowler's "Seminar of the High Performance Blade" in '05.
I have always found it entertaining when guys show up at my house - which is rather convenient for dressing deer - and they pull out 5 or 6 knives to dress their single deer.
This knife was forged from my 1984 1" square 5160 and heat treated according to Ed's formula.
Mind you, this is the second deer I have field dressed, split rib cage, cut out back straps and tenderloins, skinned and quartered, cut through neck, tail bone, etc.
(Please forgive that out of focus wheel barrow full of quarters!)
She's ready for the next deer, and I have not sharpened her yet.
It's amazing what can be done with a simple piece of steel.
I think we're all in the right place.

Great job on the knife my friend but I could make a good meal from the steaks on that hide.
Maby your knife is too sharp. ;)

I grew up in Alabama but my brother and I went hunting in Iowa last fall. You can't just snatch the hide off those big Iowa deer like you can those fat little 'Bama deers, especially if the carcass has gotten cold before skinning. I was surprised how much more work it was to process one of those beasts.

I'm sure you are right Wampus.Didn't mean to be too critical.Just in the mood to poke a little fun I guess.

Poke all you want - I'm up for it.
That deer did spend the night on the garage floor which was about 24 degrees.
Some deer just offer more challenges than others.
Coyotes gotta eat too.

That's what I'm talkin about Karl! Nice deer and knife. Congratulations. :clapper: Lin

Congratulations Karl! Nice deer and it is good to see blood on a knife. When did you make that one, it looks like some of your earlier work?

You just looked at the pictures, didn't you, Dan?
I said back in '05.

Well, I am guilty. I read it but somehow left out some details. My wife reminds me of that often. Dan
