Title: Martin Mountaineer vs. Martin Vision
Post by: lolwut on January 26, 2008, 01:23:00 AM
Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a new bow and have so far got two options, either a martin vision or mountaineer.
Both are in the 60lb range and are about the same length, however, the mountaineer will probably end up costing about $100-$150 extra compared to the Vision.
In your opinion, which would be the better bow to choose and why?

Cheers

I've only had the Mountaineer.  I liked them, but I didn't think they were anything special.  Very "Hill" like.  I've heard complaints about handshock, but that never bothers me, so I'm not a good witness on that.  The Vision is more of hybrid flatbow than  a longbow, no experience with that one.  I'd consider the Vision if I was buying another bow, just because the company makes great bows and I've heard good things about it.  I make selfbows and honestly, I can make a bow that performs as well as the Mountaineer, so buying another of those isn't an option.

The Vision is a very nice shooting bow. I had one and passed it on to my brother in law. You can't go wrong, just remember to watch your set-ups if you are planning on hunting with it. As a 66" bow you can get into low tree limbs if you are not carefull!

The Mountaineer is more of a straight limbed longbow and they are an older model most of them used dacron strings. The Vision is a high R/D bow with tip overlays that you can use FF string materials. The Mountaineer has a straight grip and the Vision has more of a recurve type grip. Here the Vision usally sells for more then a Mountaineer. Both Martins are good bows in their own respects, one is more of a Hill style and the other a highly R/D.

i like the vision better, it seems faster and not a much hand shock.
