Title: type of steel?

i am looking to buy a fixed blade hunting knife. what kind of steel should i look for. maybe looking for a factory knife or made by some local knife makers or posibly someone on here.

B-dog,
        It depends on the use, but if it's for inland use where it wont be around salt water, I would choose a high carbon spring steel forged and/or ground by someone who knows what they're doing. With a little care and appreciation, such a knife would last a lifetime of hard use and then some. Lin

Depends on what ya wanna spend really. Heck I know alot of people that use a old hickory knife and love it. And then there are people who take there knife real serious and spend over 200.00 on a knife to use. <><

Good advice above.I would just add that if rust drives you crazy and you hunt in the rain don't overlook a good stainless.

my personal favorite is D2 tool steel...it will rust though if you don't keep it dry
