Title: Knife making is kocking at my door!
Post by: EASTERNARCHER on August 29, 2009, 11:55:00 AM
Hi guys. I've been around here quite a bit and sorta had a notion to make a few knives back awhile ago, but other things got priority.
Recently I made a trade (longbow for a custom droppoint hunter) This got me thinking again, so with winter coming on, I'm thinking on giving this a try.
Any pointers as to how to start? ie: where to find a good quality blade blank(don't want to forge my own). OR maybe a good quality kit with the parts and I do the work. Since I'm in Canada, I wonder how shipping would work if I bought supplies from the States???Border and Customs are likely more sticky when it comes to blades etc. But prices up here are sure to be higher.

Don't want to start a business or anything, but want to make a few working blades for myself and maybe a damascus Bowie? presentation piece for my den.

BTW, I've seen some awesome creations on here and it has inspired me to try! Keep up the fine work!

Jantz, Sheffield, and the auction site are good places to pick up all that you need! Be warned...it is an addiction!

You may want to consider starting with a Helle blade kit.  Very good knife blade and not expensive. And they come nasty sharp. So tape it up before you do anything.  Dan
