I got this timber rattler skin from a Highpockets on ***********. He was gracious enough to send it to me. It was a chunck about 28" long and probably 8-9" across at the widest point. I was afraid the skin was too thick and the pattern too wide for a bow so I wanted to use it for something. I drew out the pattern and have been thinking about building it for awhile. I finally finished it up today. I had to splice the skin in 3 places to cover the entire board.
Made the board from cherry, the tongue is osage, and even destroyed one on the dogs toys to get the eyes.
It is 47" OAL and I put 7 shaker pegs on it to hold bows. I just wanted something a little different for another bowrack.
My wife not only agrees I got something different, but she now thinks I am different! She thinks I am nuts and have too much time on my hands if I am in the basement putting snakeskin on a piece of wood and glueing eyes and tongues?
They will never understand!!!! lol
Here are a few pics, Steve

Steve, that's the sweetest bow rack I've ever seen! Is it for sale yet????
Sweet bow rack!
STEVE, THAT'S AWESOME!!!! SINCE YOU MISSED MY B-DAY LAST YEAR I'LL TAKE THIS AND THEN I'LL FORGIVE YOU.
MIKE
thats an awesome idea , looks great :0)
Nice RACK! (first time I ever said that to a guy!) I would go with a little scarier eyes myself...think...mean, you know?!!! but that's just me. I love it!
A work of art! Nice going!
Looks great steve.Thats diffrent.
I gotta go with Guru on this one...'sides that; another example of the imagination and talent that hangs out here.
Well Done!
I agree about the eyes. I just didnt want to spend the money on real snake eyes from a taxidermy place. And all the dogs toys had "round" friendly looking eyes. So I went with what I had on hand here. If I come across some better eyes I will just pop these off and glue the new ones on. Thanks for the compliments, Steve
Looks great. Cool idea.
Very nice! That's a really great idea! I hope you don't mind if maybe I plagiarize it... imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? :)
I've had a snake skin in the freezer for a while, and after killin' that one, I didn't want anything to do with any more snakes. So I'll probably never have two for putting on a bow.
Very nice. I like the eyes and the tongue.
nice-----and GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!
I replied to this once, but my reply somehow disappeared. Good idea,Steve. Nice job.
I was wondering what you were going to do with that snake shaped board I've been tripping over... :D
Well Bill, you still may be tripping over it, I haven't decided where to hang it yet? My wife said I can hang it ANYWHERE I want, as long as I hang it's somewhere she doesn't have to look at it! :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
that's funny right there... :biglaugh:
Nice what a bow holder I think I need one best one I have seen
OH, I like that!! :clapper:
Well I got the rack hung up on the wall. Put it on the wall along the steps heading down to the man cave, so wife said that was OK :biglaugh:

It's cool Steve. :campfire:
Awesome!
You know, you could turn that project into a profitable little cottage industry. maybe that would change your wife's opinion toward your archery endeavors. Well done.
I think that they would sell too....I know I'd sure like to have one! I could try to make it myself but it probably would look more like a molting worm than a timber rattler.
Well done my friend~~very well done
Regards, Carl
Here are a few pics of some new racks I just built, One is a diamondback water snake on a piece of cherry, the other is a texas rat snake on a piece of red oak. I also had a small piece of praire rattler skin laying around so I made a small 10 1/2" snake and covered it. I put 6 brass hooke on it for a keyring hold that mounts on the wall. Steve

Those are just too cool!!
I might have to make one of those for myself. Thanx for the idea and sharing the pix
WHAT ARE YOU USING ON THE RAT SNAKE ONE FOR HOOKS....i LIKE THOSE.
Those are nice!
The rack comment on page one was funny. I got two real nice BIG Western Diamondbacks and some other skins if you want to trade. The wife may like it for a belated Vaentine's present.....
Warden415: Those are just too cool!!! keep up the good work! Wells
Those bow racks are so cool. Great Job!!!!!
Warden415....the check is in the mail.
Paul
PS. I've seen Stripstrike1's diamondback skins and you could hand quite a few bows on those monsters.
Steve,
Very cool my friend! I just cant believe it has taken your wife this long to figure out that you are "different."
Shane
Ok Paul, thanks! Steve Stripstrike1 I may give you a shout on PM about the skins
Awesome! Where do we line up, or take a number?
Very cool idea!
Anyone interested in the Texas rat snake one or the keychain holder, send me a PM Steve
Those are pretty cool.
