I would like to see some hog killing knives.
I am getting the bug to build a couple and go down south and hunt pigs with my buddy who uses a spear.
Any ideas and pics would be appreciated!

So any big bowie type blade would be fine for pigs?
Have you killed a pig with a knife Lin? I seem to recall maybe you have?
I always love seeing your knives.
I have a 5160 big knife waiting for heat treating, maybe I will dub it as a pig sticker.

Thanks for your been there done that insight.
I was thinking of using the bottom knife in the pic, it has a 9.5" blade. Might just have to put a finer point on it.
Or I was thinking of forging a longer knife similar to the 4th one down, straighten the curve a little to make it a better thruster.

I saw a picture of my buddy with his 2 pigs he killed with a spear, and I got the notion that if he can do it with a 6 foot spear, I can do it with a bowie!! But I reckon dogs would be a good thing to keep the pig occupied :D

Hi Guys.
Well I slightly reprofile the 9" fighter in the bottom of my picture and finished rough grinding. I am going to HT is today as the first knife in my new Evenheat oven. Woo Hoo!
I think I got it pointy enough as it slipped from my hand when I was truing up the distal taper on the blade, and went thru the bottom of my water bucket hanging under my KMG.
This one is going to be fun, as it is the first long fighter I have done, and it is going to kill a pig!

just a thought, the blade is .160 at the ricasso. Is this too thin for this purpose?

This is a 9 3/4" Bowie, forged 1084 blade, Snakewood handle, 416SS guard, spacer and butt cap.

I forged this Spearpoint Bowie from a 2 1/2"dia bar of 52100 ball bearing steel. 9 3/4" blade, frame handle with desert ironwood scales, nickle silver pins, guard and spacers.

Hee hee, my new oven is great. Normalized 3 times at about 1300, soaked it at 1525 for 15 minutes, full quench in 130 degree tough quench, and it is hard as can be and straight as an arrow. I was worried about warp,

Man those are some pretty hog stickers, why would you want to get such a pretty knife dirty?
I have hunted dogs with knives and I actually took my first one about a month ago, it was great, I can't wait to go again.
A good sturdy knife with a 6"+ blade is all you really need for them, get the blade to much longer (10+)and you risk hurting the dogs on the other side.
