Title: The Wooden Box
Post by: Jack Denbow on June 11, 2009, 10:08:00 AM
Yesterday when my wife brought in the mail she told me I had a wooden box. I knew what it was as I had been pacing the floor like a caged animal waiting for it to arrive. I removed the 14 screws with a manual screwdriver to prolong the suspense.

After I removed all the screws I found the lid attached with double sided tape. The shipper didn't want anyone tampering with the contents but the recipient. When i finally got the lid off this is what I found.

I opened the zippered pouch and lookie what was inside.

Karl is a very talented artisan and a superb craftsman. This knife has great balance and heft. It feels so right. He told me it was made to be bloodied and with any luck this fall it will do just that. TradGang is such a great place, I have made so many new friends here.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures.

I like the light spalting on the box lid.  What's the rest of the box look like?

Doc, I will have it at Denton Hill this year.

Karl, yep I got all the other goodies that were in there. I can't wait to bloody that baby.

Jeremy, the top and bottom look like 3/16" luan plywood, the rest of the box is 3/4" pine.

Ian, 3 buddies and I are hunting at Rays place next spring. I told them they may want to bring a few extra bucks. LOL

It's just 1/4" Luan and 3/4" spruce/pine/etc. ripped 2 1/2" wide.
A whole sheet of luan costs about 10 bucks.
then I buy an 8' 1 X 10 and rip it for the side.
I just make a whole stack of pieces and one time, and when I box them up this way, I NEVER worry about anyone getting into the box or the content being damaged.
Jack, I've been invited down to Ray's as well. Maybe have to meet some of ya'll down that way!

Gee, I got a box like that today also. Karl's first forged Damascus with ebony handle, blued blade and fittings, a real beauty and scary sharp to boot. No time for pics until after the 19th as I will be off island.

Jack Very nice knife!!Although I have one that may be prettier. What you will be surprised at is its usefulness.I haven't sharpend mine yet and thats after the whole families deer where field dressed and then cut up!!!(5 total)but I am thinking about raising a lttle cane with Karl as I think he could build one that would do 10 deer, without sharpening.LOL(Although I can't build one that good yet) Kevin
