Title: Stabilized corn cob

Anyone out there try this yet?I saw some from a knifemaker who was at Whittingham and I forgot his name.It was really neat, kinda looked like snakewood only better.If any of you know who that PA knifemaker  Whittingham that used it please let me know his name.

Izzy, I was admiring his work aswell. I would love for my knives to look half as good as his. The finished knives were very well done. I wish my boys weren't pulling on me to leave so early as I was hoping to get to chat a little.

I saw something similar using cholla cactus that was stabilized. Wild looking stuff

Stabilized cob is used in pen turning alot. I have never seen it on a knife but it sounds cool.

We have a local chap who has made several knives utilizing a stabilized corn cob as a handle. He usually demonstrates its strength by wacking the handle on the table several times. Although it doesn't appeal to me, he seems to sell quite a few. LOL Jon

Sorry Izzy! His name is Fred Fry. I know him well! He is a retired engineer who lives in Milton Pa. He showed JR Johnson (president of our Pa knife makers club) how to use it. JR got the idea and learned from Fred who has been doing it for at least a decade. In fact, there are currenty 7 knife makers in our club who currently offer a stabilized corn cob handle in one way or another on a knife. I can't wait till our next meeting to tell JR he made a "trad gang" thread. Need contact info? Jon

I'd like to make a knife with corncob handle, cow, hog, and chicken foot leather sheath!!!!
