Title: Zircote Hunter
Post by: Emmons on April 21, 2009, 06:45:00 PM
My first mortised tang knife (thanks you Lin's build-a-long).  Need to build a light box and learn to take better photos.  Besides that, let me know what you think.

4-1/2" Blade made from O1
OAL 9-1/2"
Mortised tang contruction
416 SST guard and pins
Zircote handle material

Thank you everyone!!  I will try to get some more photos up of this one.  I really like building the mortised tang versus a hidden tang.  I also think this is my best knife yet.

Lin-I again thank you very much for explaining this style of knife construction.  I have a how to by Terry Primos book marked on how to build a mortised tang, but his website is gone since he stopped making knives.

A GREAT looking knife, way to go!

For photos, try taking photos in the evening, using only a table lamp nearby.  This will cause your camera on "auto" to use the flash. The flash fill in will help a lot.
Also, darker woods will show more contrast if you don't use light backgrounds, a medium dark background as you were using will be fine usually.
Take flash photos from various angles and only keep the best ones.

It's too bad Terry stopped making knives. I hope to see him at some of the events this year. I learned a lot from his website too.

Again, you made an outstanding knife. It looks like you gave great attention to each part and the results totaled up to a very fine knife. Anyone would be proud to carry that one. Lin
