Sort of a Dozier influence. A buddy of mine has one of his blades, and I fell in love with it, now, I am making my own! Or trying to.
The tang is far from done, only roughed out, so bear with me for a while, I have SAT testing this week, so it may be a day or two before I get back on it.
All freehanded, I have yet to make a jig, but I will, and soon!

Jigs are overrated - in the time spent making most of them you can get pretty good just doing the technique :)

No no no no no.
Jeremy is right.
If you can hollow grind that good, you would be wasting your time to fiddle around with any kind of "jigs".
Just take your time and get better at what you already are doing a jood job of.
Knife blades are three dimensional and jigs can't "think" and "feel" around the tapers and profiles of the various knife styles you will make.
Let the FORCE guide you.

That is very good for your first hollow grind. That is all I do, and it takes practice. Never tried a jig but I have been tempted to make one and try it.
I'll tell you, my first hollow grinds, ended up in the trash can!

Thanks guys, luckily everyone I had to take the SAT with was only slightly slower than I was. Hah. So we got out of em a day early.
Not quite sure on my career goals just yet Steve, gotta little bit more "Kid" in me before I have to worry with it too much. Something where I am not stuck in a cubicle all day doing paperwork and such would be a rough statement.

Oh. I almost forgot, the knife looks NOTHING like it did before.
Through some sick twisted turn of events, the blade was snatched out of my hand, and between the wheel and guard, grinding a large chunk out of my edge. I was not, and still not a happy camper regarding this.
Its a LOT slimmer, and will get the handle slimmed a tad more. It is M2 (think drill bit) steel, so not only have my attempts to soften it failed, a file wont cut it, it cuts the file! :biglaugh:

I would consider that an important lesson. Lucky the blade didn't get flung downward and cut something you didn't want cut, like your foot or leg.
The buffer is the most dangerous thing in my shop, for same reason.

By the way, have you tried a propane torch to soften the handle? If it won't anneal, then that is not a great material to be making a knife with.
A cobalt drill bit may drill it.

did you use a 8" grinding wheel or a 6". i only have a 6" i thought of doing one, but thought it would be to thin in the middle.

I used a 6" and it DID get reeeeal thin in the middle and still had a thick edge. It works wonders on a narrow blade like this, but an 1 1/2" wide like it started just barely gets by.

great job on your first grind the outher side was always the hard one for me .jigs are a waist of time,unless you are making one style knife at least for me it is. i use 5 cutoff wheels stacked on my grinder, i get the wheels free from welding shops after the wear them out, one set last me about 2-3 years. loyd
