Post by: Kevin Evans on March 09, 2009, 05:59:00 PM
Here are a couple of 3" hunters I finished last week. First time I've used stag (kinda fun)but hard to make look right on a blade that small
Top one 3" blade 7" OA n/s guard Ambyra burl
Second one 3" blade 6.75 OA n/s guard and
butt cap and Stag handle (http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/coonpeter/3inchhunter002.jpg) (http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/coonpeter/3inchhunter008.jpg) (http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/coonpeter/3inchhunter.jpg)

They look good Kevin. I see some influence of your Arkansas trip. How did you mount the stag? Lin

Thanks Lin, these are some pieces I picked out after you helped me,at the show.
I drilled hole a little over half way through and used acura glass.Do you think I should pin also??or is it acceptable to just use clue in some cases??
Was trying to not remove any horn (like Karl),but it just didn't look right so you see I removed some on sides and bottom.
The butt cap has screw soldiered on and then is drilled and more clue added.
Looks like it has to much drop to me.But if I change that then I would have to grind on top and bottom both so I went with this.

Hey Kevin, Nice work! I don't see anything wrong with that stag handle hunter at all.
Of course I'm a sucker for antler handle knives!

Rooster...those look good, bud. Your concern about them is the same issue I struggle with on deer antler..I have a couple orders...and I am trying my best to make the knife for them out of the antler..but it just has too much curve in it and its going to look very odd.

I'm thinking about slabbing the antler onto a full tang to make it work right.
