I have GOT to stop watching that film!
This is the result of the last viewing.
12-3/4" OAL
7-1/4" clip point blade
Sambar stag handle with brass bolster & buttcap
This is my first attempt at a bolstered fulltang, so be gentle! The blade is about 3/16" thick & beaten out of an old (1960s) landrover leaf-spring, which then ground to shape (Funnily enough, I got the spring from an old guy who's nickname is Grizzly. Funny old world, huh?!)
The sheath is in a mountain-man style with both a normal beltloop on the reverse, plus a slot & belt-flap so I can wear it pretty much how ever I like.

-
Thats beautiful work right there..If you like Rob as soon as we get to Que'bec with Tom this spring you could give it a try on a live 200# black bear.
We can lure him into the cabin with some crusty creams doughnuts.Where you will be waiting behind the door.Once he's in with you.I slam the door and run like hell. You know what you gotta do before I return with another right ? Whatda ya say ??????? bd
-
Tell you what BD, I'll trap 'im & skin 'im, if you let the bugger chase you through the snow! :D :D :D
-
might not be much snow there however I am always up for a good race. The only problem I can see is they are a bit faster on thier feet then one might think. So I will need the aid of some good running shoes.bd

You da same Pilgrim I've been hearin' for three days and smellin' for two?
Sure are cocky for a starvin' Pilgrim.
Where you been, Rob?
You an American yet?
That is my A #1 favorite movie of all time.
I know for a fact I've seen it more than 100 times.
-
You've come far pilgrim.
Feels like far.
Twer it worth the trouble?
Ha? What trouble?
-
He was livin' in a cave up on the Musselshell with a female panther. She never did get used to him. ...
-
Now I gotta watch it again!!
Beautiful job Rob! "Big Nasty"
-
 :D
-
"Just as fast as you can bring em."
Nice job Rob I like the tacks on the sheath too.
-
Nice knife Rob!
Did you pin those bolsters?
Looks like you are ready for a bear carvin'
Dan
-
Thanks guys,I can always rely on you lot to put a grin on me face! :D
Dan, yep, I pinned the bolster with 2 4mm brass pins, the buttcap is pinned into the end of the antler.
It's presently coated in a mixture of ketchup & mustard to hurry-along the patina on the brass. It looks far to new! I'm seriously considering burying it in the garden for a few weeks to 'mature' :D
-
Very nice knife!
Whats on the spit?
Grown peticular???
Funny thing is I just watched that movie AND the Mountain Men at work this week...none of those guys ever saw either!?
If I don't get some whiskey soon I'm gonna DIE!!!
...hmm, that might be my new signature line.
-
Just where is it I could find bear, beaver, and other critters worth cash money when skinned?
Ride due west as the sun sets. Turn left at the Rocky Mountains.
-
I've been looking for a copy of The Mountain Men that'll play on UK DVD players for years :( It's only available in the US though.
Fun Fact; I bet you didn't know that at least 2 Trad Gang members I know of were extras in the film. Vance Brewer & Charlie Lamb! :D (At least I'm 99.9% sure it was The Mountain Men)
-
Truly a classic film suitable for entertainment as well as education. Another favorite: The Mountain Men Charleston Heston, Brian Keith

hi Rob
I learned a trick for aging the brass tacks, from Chuck Burrows.
Get a metal pan, fill it with enough salt to cover the tack head, when you place them in upside down.Put all your tacks in the salt. Now take your little propane torch and heat the shafts if the tacks.
The affordable tacks here have steel shafts so this method anneals them and has the benefit of aging the heads. I am not sure if it would work on 100% brass tacks.
Knife and sheath look great!
-
Beautiful knife Rob!!! :clapper:
-
You turn down this gift, and they'll slit you, me, bowdoc and the horses from crotch to eyeball with a sharp robtattoo blade
You've come far pilgrim. :notworthy: :clapper:
Ain't this somethin'? I told my pap and mam I was going to be a mountain man; acted like they was gut-shot. "Make your life go here, son. Here's where the people is. Them mountains is for Indians and wild men." "Mother Gue", I says "the Rocky Mountains is the marrow of the world," and by God, I was right. Keep your nose in the wind and your eye along the skyline.
-
That is one sweet package! That sheath looks great with that blade!
-
Lost? T'aint never been lost. Been confused for a month or two.... Mountain Men

Love those bolsters Rob. Thanks for sharing. That's got to be one of my top picks for movies. Got some laughs from the movie lines. Lin
