Title: plasma cutter
Post by: Bubster on January 30, 2009, 06:30:00 PM
First off I really love this sight, the talent is all first rate. I have been reading everything for about 2 years now and made my first knife this past november. Thank you all for posting and inspiring me. I have made a dozen knives after that one and no end is in sight, I love it. I have been using an angle grinder for roughing out my blanks and was wondering if any of you use a plasma cutter or think it would be any good for knife making. Thanks in advance.

not sure but i think it would burn up the steel, and not very cost effective is it?

most folks use a metal cutting bandsaw

I have used one and I think that it heats the edges to much.  But it sure does make a nice cut.

I have used it when I am in a hurry.  shouldn't get the steel to hot if you plan to heat treat later anyway.  Certainly not as hot as a torch.
