The last two years worked out very well, so I figure we'll do it the same way again this year. It's pretty simple. If you want to participate all you need to do is make a knife (or three) by the deadline and Email me your name, address and the number of knives you want to swap. Once I have all the information I’ll randomly draw names from a hat and email everyone who to send their knives to.
Doing it this way avoids the problem we’ve had with the arrow trades the last few years of people saying they’d participate, but then not being able to due to whatever circumstances that came up. This way if you make 3 knives, you’ll get three knives and if you only have time for one, that’s OK too!
The deadline for this year will be May 30th. That'll give everyone a good couple of months to get everything they may need together and find the time - I know I need it!
And to answer the questions that I know will come: YES, stone blades are definitely welcome in the swap. NO, you don't need to forge the blade yourself - Helle blades and others are welcome as long as you assemble the knife. YES, 'Cheatr' knives are welcome.
Build alongs are always nice to see! (hint) :D
My email address is [email protected]
-
Jeremy : I'm in and thanks for all you do to put this together . Drew :notworthy: :notworthy:

-
I'll do my best to join in on a stone blade.
-
I hope to be in again, if things go well in 2009, and I like it being set up this way.
-
I am most definately in again this year. I'm planning on doing three stone blade knives and I hope to do one steel blade knife this year.
-
I guess I'll get in. Let's go guys LOTS of knife makers on here. No need to be shy.<><

I am in and this is my first year. Looking forward to it.
-
I am in for three this year. I have really enjoyed making and receiving the knives the last two years.
Thanks again Jeremy, for putting this together, I know how much work it must be!
-
Been looking forward to it. I will be forging at least one but if time allows I will make more.
Bob Urban

-
hey sticshooter cant you just make this post a sticky at the top so it will stay at the top all the time .
-
Yeah I could. BUUTTT then no one will see it. Just like no one see the rules posted at the top :knothead: :bigsmyl: Beside I like to TTT. Adds to my post count. <><
-
you can count me in for two
-
UP UP UP away!!!!!!<><
-
Frank, will hatchets be allowed?Like Rich Mcdonald and Winkler style?
-
Izzy I never seen one of those. Ya gotta ask the MAN..... jeremy runs the show. I'm just lucky he lets me in on it.LOL<><
-
Hmmm... hatchets. Why not? :D
-
There ya go Izzy. Now i wanna see what these hatchets look like. PICS!!!!!!!!!!<><
-
This is getting better by the post!!
-
OK lets go knife makers. I know there are alot of makers out there. Join in the fun <><
-
Last year I was in but then had to bow out. I wasn't gonna get in till I was sure I could this year.
Now I got the bug again and can't stay out.
I'm in for one!
-
I can't let Frank have all the fun... TTT
-Jeremy (needing to pad my post #'s a little too :D )
-
Ok real knife makers...what is the easiest way for a guy that knows virtually nothing about steel to get a blade ready? I have a blank, but that seems like cheating...
-
It's not cheating at all. Alot of entries for the swap are pre made blanks. I plan on using one myself aswell as one or two from scratch if I can find the time. SKippy
-
Well that makes it a lot better hearing it from another. Thanks!
-
I'm in for 1.
-
Jamie, you want me to bring some knife "stuff" to the Bunny Hunt? I have plenty of good steel and can talk you through most of it as you go.
-
That would be absolutely awesome Jeremy!
-
I've only been making knives for a few months but I'll do my best to make someone a special knife. Put me in for one. Thanks.
-
Come on Guys.... Last year was great. Send in your email with how many knives you are in for to Jeremy.
-
Long time reader, first time poster here. Just got up the nerve to get in on the swap myself. Just wanted to try a few knives first so I knew what I was getting myself into. I also thought it was high time to tell the Gang THANKS! for all the help along the way. There is a wealth of information here, and some really GREAT people :notworthy: .
I am in for 3 knives.
THANKS again, z-man
-
I have been virtually absent from this post since last year, but not for lack of desire, just lack of TIME!
I got some supplies lying around, so I'm in for one for now!
-
Still time to get guys. This is a lot of fun and ya don't have to swap a $400.00 knife.<><
-
I will try to make a couple this year. I have watched the swap for the last couple of years and am always amazed at the talent on this site. I just hope I don't dissapoint anyone.
-
Well I'm in again for one this year. I hope to make something a little better than I did last year. Now I just have to find the time!
Aaron
-
How much longer we got until tradeing time ???? bd
-
bd, you have until May 30 to finish up knives.
As a reminder, please wait until after you have finished the knives to email me your info. Doing it that way avoids issues we've had in the past with other swaps where guys initial say, "I'm in" but then life throws a curveball and they're not able to participate. It saves me the trouble of tracking people down to confirm... with 80 knives last year and more expected this year, that's quite a bit of work!
-
Thanks Jeremy sounds good...bd
-
still time and still room.<><
-
I'm not even good enough to be called a novice...but I'll throw my name in the mix also.
Hopefully I'll be able to make 2 things that might resemble a sharpened pointy thing! :)
-
I have not finished my new shop yet, but things are comeing along. I should have 220 wired up in a couple of weeks. So I quess I will sign up for two knifes. This will push me to get the shop together faster..
-
I am in for two...after seeing the quality I got for what I gave last year and since I have a bunch of home improvement projects coming up I decided to give a couple of Helle blades and try to make up a couple of cool sheaths. Here are the knives (not done yet but couldn't stand not to post them.)
-
put me in for one working on one now that looks realy good so far
-
I sent Jeremy an e-mail but thought I'd post here as well. Put me down for one knife in the swap. I have a skinner I made with a birdseye maple handle and sheath I made for it. The blade is an "altered" green river blank.
I just recently started forging my own steel, so with any luck I'll be swapping one of those next year!
-
OK guys, I've gotten a lot of emails from people saying "I'm in" Please wait until after you've finished at least one knife before emailing me. That way I don't have to track you down later to confirm. I'll try to get a list of finished knives up this weekend, but things may be delayed some while I mess around with the computer and transfer data. I'm not ignoring anyone's emails, just responding to all of them would take longer than I have on weeknights :)
-
Thanks for taking the time to organize this Jeremy! :notworthy:
-
Not even started! When is the swap? I thought it was May last year? I need a time frame! LOL!

ttt for the swap
-
Put me in for one. I know you guys haven't seen my work yet, that'll change once I am sure I'm not breaking any rules. I'm assuming this is similar to a KITH (knife in the hat). I'm still familiarizing myself with this layout, so be patient please.
-
Hey all, do we show pics of the finished knives here before the swap, or do we wait for the proud new owners to post them?
-
Lawren, you can do either, but I know I'm not alone in saying "I want to see the pics!" :D
-
LOL! I may be in for two. I'll post pics tonight, I'm Off to the forge.

-
Put me in for two. I already have them made. I'll post pictures later. Larry
-
Man there has been a flury of awesome blades posted lately. I think this is gonna shape up to be one of the best knife swaps yet.
Can't wait to start seeing some of the knives that will be trading hands posted here.
I should have one or two of mine done this weekend. Stay tuned!
-
Was gonna do two, now it looks like I'll only get one in.
-
Here is one, for starters that is almost finished for the swap.

Nice Scott.
Here is the one I showed earlier. Now complete and as always dressed in a brain tanned deer skin sheath.
More to come in a few days!
-
John,
Another excellent knife, I would be happy to get another one in the swap anytime.
-
I finished this one up for the swap today too.
Was gonna wait till I had the sheath made but, aaaah what the heck
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/JOHN4Mystikbow/DSCF0580.jpg)
-
Lets bump this back up top
-
If ya'll can do with a beginner, I'd like to get in on this too. I'll prob only have one, though. We'll see.
-
ttt
-
mmm... did everybody loose interest in this, this year
-
Nope...just figuring out a handle type and material for a blank.
Maybe next year I will forge one...
-
There's still lots of time to get in on this!
I do have a favor to ask...
Those of you who have knives completed please email me your information, even if you've already emailed me I was switching everything over to a 'new' computer and thought I got it all, but after looking I'm pretty sure I missed a few.
-
Oops, my email addy would help, huh? :) (It's new too)

-
Jeremy
i would like to put in for two knifes, i have one finshed with pictures, but do you want me to wait until i have both done?
thanks
dana
-
Dana,
You can post them whenever you want or at least that is what people have done in the past.
-

-
Was wondering if every one was done"? I am ready to send mine.
-
Might as well put it some place safe! The swap won't be until May 30th. I did mine early last year and it seemed like forever before the swap. Post some pics!!!!!
-
Jim, skull has it right. The first year we did this I took a poll and everyone wanted LOTS of time. We had 80 knives swapped last year and I'm guessing we'll be close to that again this year (if not over). We're up to around 30 confirmed right now and most of the "regulars" haven't even started making them yet.
-
Yeah, Lets see some pics!!
I've got another stone blade almost finished that I'll be posting some pics of soon. Then, hopefully on to a metal blade I've been wanting to make. We'll see. LOL
-
Ok Here is My 3 attempts hope whoever gits em likes em!

Very nice! I am partial to the middle one.

This sounds like a fun thing to do. Please allow me to contribute a knife. Good Hunting Knifemaker
-
I'll try to get a list up over the next few days of confirmed knives.
Only a little over a month to go guys, so get pounding and grinding!
-
-

Jeremy - I am pulling out of the swap this year. Real sorry to do so because it is one of the things I look forward to all winter but I am getting married this summer(July 25) and all my free time has been spent prepairing for that event. outdoor wedding on grandparents farm so lots of landscape and yard work. Anyway - I have two blades roughed in with the forge and maybe later this year I will offer them up for a swap with anyone who wants. I will be back to post up pics when I finally get back into the shop.
Bob Urban
-
Not a problem Bob. A lot of "Life" has been happening to everyone this year, myself included, and many people have pulled out. We should still have a good number of knives and there's still time for guys to finish knives up. Or in my case, to start and finish a knife!
If the old computer cooperates tonight I'll get the current list up.

Add me in. I've got one finished for this year. Not the one I had planned, due to having zero spare time, but one I finished up last year. Hope it's up to par.
Aaron

Im gonna have to back out too. I cant justify "throwing" something together to get it in the mail. Especially after seeing everyone's hard work. I apologize all....between the very hectic schedule, and now feeling so ill I have to pass. Maybe next year!
Great work guys, and my hats of to you Jeremy for doing this.

There's still time to get in on this! All you need to do is finish your knives by the 30th and email me how many you've finished. I'll actually be away from the computer that weekend, so you'll have a few extra days ;)
I'll start sending out emails on the 1st and hopefully everyone will have their knives by the end of the following week. :D
I'll get an updated list up tomorrow with the emails from the past few days.

Jeremy this is the one i have for the swap. I sent you a e-mail with the picture.
hope someone enjoys it

Great looking work so far!
-
Mike, pics are encouraged, but not required. Same goes for sheaths ;)
-
Jeremy I am in for one. THANX D.
-
I'm in for one. I'll see if I can get a picture to post up. Damascus (bought -- I'm not that skilled) drop point, brass guard and antler handle.
Jeremy, I got a rejection on a direct e-mail, so tried it through tradgang. Hope you got it.
Marvin
-
Marvin, a few people have been having that problem recently ?
I'll get another updated list up tonight
-
Marvin, are you copying me? Here is the description of mine without pics. Damascus blade (bought) 5 1/4", antler handle pinned tang, carved date on handle and hoof print on butt cap. 9 1/2 O.A.L. Sheath with minimal stamping around edge. It is one i'd be happy to keep or get in a swap but my knife skills are minimal.
I will be gone from the 29th to June 1st but can ship out on the 2nd.
Thanks,
Mike Gerard owlbait

I'm in for two . Thanks Drew

OK, here is mine. Pictures aren't very good but this should give you an idea.
I set a D cell battery in there for size perspective. Not real large, I think the blade is under three inches.
The sheath is my first attempt using Rob's cross draw instructions. Not as good as some I have seen posted on here, but for a first try I thought it turned out OK.
Marvin

here are my offerings for the swap this year
the larger knife is 0-1 steel with box elder scales
the smaller knife is made from a sawmill blade and has curley maple scales

OK, I'm back home and the utility company has the power fixed (why is it things go to pot when it's the most inconvenient?)
I'll post the *final* list later today and draw tonight. Emails will be sent out tonight and tomorrow, so bear with me a little bit longer :)
-
Cool, thanks for the update.
-
Thanks Jeremy
-
Good luck to all and be sure to post pics. I just couldn't pull it together this year. Maybe I'll start building a couple swap knives now for next year. Skippy
-
Thanks, Jeremy! Mine are done. I just finished the second sheath today. All that is left is packaging. Thanks again for doing this. Larry
-
Thanks Jeremy :wavey:
-
Jason,
Sorry to hear your not in this year brother.
I was looking forward to the chance at receiving one of your great little knives! Maybe we'll have to do a private trade? :bigsmyl:

I think that's it! It's a bit confusing this year, but I think that's it. Check it over and let me know where I messed up :D
-
I count 48 total knives right? Pretty cool.
-
After seeing the fantastic knives for the swap, man am I nervous about my knives. :notworthy:
-
Me too! Z :notworthy:
-
What happened to Mechlesher?
-
Sorry Jeremy, I talked to Chris tonight and he told me he had to back out.
-
Eddie, there are quite a few of the regulars that had to bow out or didn't make it in this year (myself included). Life has been hard all around this year.
BUT at 48 knives this is looking good! :D Everyone should have the names and addresses of who to send your knives to by tomorrow night. Then the real fun begins :D
-
Wooo HOoo lets get it on! Lol I have been looking forward to this for a long time....
-
Here is my swap knife. It is made from a carbon Nicholson power hacksaw blade. I believe it is 1095 or 1085. The handle is osage with brass pins. I believe the sheath is 8oz.
I still have to mold the sheath as well as buff out the handle. I will get this done tonight!

OK, all the emails are out! It appears I was short a few addresses, so if you get an email or PM requesting your mailing address from someone, that's what it's about.
Let me know if you didn't receive and email and I'll send you the info again.
-
Got mine Jeremy. Thanks agian for Your work!
-
I got mine Jeremy. Finished the packing and addressing. Going East of Hesperia, Mi! Priority tomorrow morning.
-
I had to leave on a trip for work this afternoon and won't get home until Monday night so I won't be able to mail it out until Tuesday. It's always sumthin'.
-
Got in contact with my shippee. Thanks!
-
Got one going in the mail to Naw York and where Dixie began today. Hope you like them!
-
Jeremy,
I did not get an e-mail!! Please pm my here with it and I will get my knife shipped.
Thank you,
James
-
Mine are going to West Virginia, Michigan and Georgia! Hope you like them!
-
Jeremy, I didn't get an e-mail either. PM me here and it should work. I'll ship as soon as I know where to send it.
Marvin
-
I found the problem for at least one person not getting an email: the address they have in TradGang isn't their current address, so when they clicked on the 'email Jeremy' icon the email that was sent had the wrong return address. Check your TG profile and update it if needed (and check your old email account if possible).
I'll PM you guys tonight.
-
I just shipped one to Florida. I am now wishing I had entered 2 times!
-
Jeremy,
Thanks again for letting me get back in! Thanks for setting this all up.
Tommy
-
Yes Jeremy, thanks for organizing this again this year!
-
Jeremy, I did not recieve the email! Please send me the information again.
[email protected]
Thanks, Chris
-
I didn't get it either. I just updated my profile. But the new email is [email protected]
-
Mine are shipped to New York and Texas. L
-
Emails/PMs sent. Let me know if you still don't have the info.
-
I got them, Thanks Jeremy
-
Good looking knives!
Sorry I had to back out. With the coming deployment I just have/had too much stuff to get done. Hopefully next year I'll be more organized.
I promise that I won't make anything near as nice as some have posted here!!!
-
I will be putting mine in the mail Monday morning!

I like that armguard/sheath!
Prarieboy,

Tommy

Prarieboy, got the knife today. Love the sheath with the copper rivets. It goes really well with the knife (top knife on page seven of this thread).
Thanks, Eric
-
Got mine from Prarieboy too. There's a pic on page 7 of this thread, nice trailing point hunter with contoured elk handles. Solid manly feel to it, can't wait to get it bloody. Thanks!
-
I got my knife in the mail today from Skullworks. Man what a nice knife. He posted photos of the three he made on page 9. I received the zebra wood handled one. This knife will definitely see some use. Not only is the knife great but the sheath is top notch.
I will try and get some photos of it again and post them. My batteries are dead in my camera tonight. Thanks again skullworks. This knife is a real dandy.

I have received both knives, 1 from Mike Gerard (Owlbait) and one from David Ricke.Man o man has Tradgang smiled upon me.Two very fine knives.Mike Gerards is a very fine damascus blade with a swept belly and a very nice pinned whitetail handle with a track burned into the bottom..He also made a heavy duty sheath as well.Daves is an out of this world full tang beauty with what appears to be cocobolo scales and yellow spacers. It is a knife which I wish I had made myself. It is straight outa my dreams. The horizontal sheath tops it off. Also everything that I would want in a sheath had I custom ordered.Sorry fellas no pics yet but soon to come.
Thank You, Izzy
-
Thanks Izzy,
I received your knife today. I wish I had your skill of matching antler handle to blade length and have it blend and fit so well. Really like the damascus blade and brass guard as you can tell from the one i sent you. I won't promise pics but will try to get some.
Thanks for letting me participate,
Mike Gerard owlbait

I got a box from MYSTIKBOW today. It contained an awesome antler and obsidian blade knife. It will go nicely with the rest of my trad collection. Picture is the top knife from MYSTIKBOW on page nine of this thread.
THANK YOU! z-man
-
Here's another pic or Prairieboy's knife. I like that the clip near the point is unsharpened so there's a nice curved place to rest a finger for small tasks. The handle is nice and wide and fills the hand for heavy stuff. So far it's just seen duty on veggies in the kitchen. Wife likes it also, but too bad...this ain't gonna be no kitchen knife.

Well here's a picture of the knife I got from Skullworks. He already posted photos of them (which are better than mine) but I thought I'd show it again. Thanks again for the knife. I hope to put it to good use.
