I finally got this one ready hit the woods. Brass, bocote and macassar ebony handle, 1095 blade (clay coated and etched).
Should be bloody by the end of the week. It's going to a guy who works a few floors down from me... he normally gets a pile of deer every year and this season is no different.

Jeremy,
This is the first and only gut hook that I have ever seen and liked. I have avoided them, but this one is different. :clapper: It has good lines and looks like it will hold up to side pressure on the tip. :) Lin

Thanks Lin! Personally, I can't stand gut hooks; they ruin the lines of whatever knife they're on. I took the time to get everything to flow as best I could with this style handle (also not my favorite). They are handy things though and the knife wasn't for me anyway! The last blade I did with a narrow hook just zips deer open - wouldn't want to try it with a thicker-skinned animal, but it'll work fine on everything up to a small elk.

Very Nice !!!!

I agree with everyone!! Very Nice!!

God job Jeremy! I like it.

I'm with Lin..never cared for them either..but your design is very nice...good flow..and sensible looking in the way of performance.
If anyone orders one again from me, I might ask permission to style one after your design?
Nice work!

nothing else to say. <><

I've never cared much for guthook knives either. Although I do own a little necker guthook knife I received in a trade. Having said that this one is a bit different in that the hook is much farther down the blade than most. I kinda like it. lol
Nice one Jeremy
BTW I'll be sending you some pics in a day or two.

Dag Gone that's one beautiful knife !!!!
-
Awesome!Lin and Ray said it already but that is a sweet knife.
-
Very nice Jeremy!

Thanks guys!
Ray, feel free. Heck, I'll even send you the wood mock up of it if'n you want it. There's not much new in knife design - if it's at all functional it's been done before.
I handed it off to Steve this morning. He seemed to like it a little ;)
I forgot to mention the finish. I had put TruOil on it, but the dang stuff was still tacky after a few days next to the furnace (it wouldn't even dry over glass)! So I stripped it down, put two wash coats of clear dewaxed shellac followed by 3-4 coats of Minwax wipe on poly. She glows in person :)
