Title: Little bit of leather...
Post by: Jeremy on October 07, 2008, 08:26:00 AM
I've been getting into the shop for blade work little by little... finally starting to finish some knives up that should have been done months ago.

I don't need much shop time for leatherwork though, so I can get some work in after the baby goes to bed (and I need a break from dishes or housework)

Here's a little bit of leather and some canebrake for one of Izzy's knives:

Skin is air-dried.  I got it damp with some alcohol, then bonded it to the tooling leather.  The first two (heavy) coats of TruOil took 2 days each to dry, so the leather under the skins should be pretty waterproof too.  I wish I had dyed the leather under the skins black instead of tan, but other than that I like it.

Here's a Mountainman sheath for one of Chuck's favorite knives:

10oz veggie tanned leather, wrapped in goat and trimmed with deer.  I really like how this one turned out!

Thanks for posting the pic Jeremy.I have to say I was blown away by it.It looks good in pics but to see it for real is something else. And the fit of the knife is perfect with just the right amount of tension. You are a leather master my friend. The work you did to the knife was also astounding. For any body seeing this post, a while back I sent Jeremy a knife that my father left me that was in a bit of rough shape. He rescaled it with polished elk and bocote and polishe up the blade as well as reshaping the guard.Let me tell you all its a work of art.Ill never hunt without it.Thanks again Jeremy.

Dave, aren't you in need of a knife from me too?  :)  Yours is in this month's trio... and this time I won't scavenge the steel for a raffle!

Chuck, you got it, right buddy?!
